Local Family Business Celebrates 17th Anniversary at New Location

GRAND Opening of New Showroom in Edmonds, May 21st, 2011 _________________________________________

In response to the continued growth and demand for green solutions in natural lighting in the Puget Sound area, our company is expanding its headquarters to Edmonds, WA

Northwest Natural Lighting is hosting a Grand Opening at their new facility on Saturday May 21, 2011 from 10am until 2pm.  There will be prizes, refreshments and special pricing on products.

All owners are originally from Edmonds and in their words, “it feels great to be back in this area”.  “While we enjoyed the convenient location in Lynnwood for 16 years, it was time for us to own our own building and have the space to expand our product line.” Noted Brad Dahl.

Northwest Natural Lighting Inc. is a family business that started in April of 1994.  With backgrounds in banking, construction and manufacturing engineering, all owners brought value to the business.  Starting with Solatube Daylighting and Solar powered attic fan installations, they quickly added Retractable Screens and Aluminum Railing Systems to their product line.

“While we acknowledge the current challenges in the construction industry, we continue to focus on the green movement and take advantage of the energy efficiencies that our products provide”, says Torre Dahl

Edmonds resident and one of the owners, John Sagvoldsaid, “we have spent the last six months finishing an extensive remodel of the old Spray King building. Now we have a nice showroom and will look forward to seeing people on the 21st of May.”

Local Family Business Thriving in Difficult Times

After 16 years NW Natural Lighting still Brightening Homes in the Northwest

_________________________________________

(Lynnwood, WA., May 1, 2010): Before being green was the “In” thing, when grunge still ruled the airwaves and flannel was the preferred choice of outer wear three north Seattle natives came up with a bright idea, creating a business around the idea that inexpensive, energy efficient natural lighting could work up in Washington where overcast isn’t just on the five day forecast it is a way of life.

Out of that idea came NW Natural Lighting, Washington’s premier Solatube dealer.  Solatubes a Tubular Daylighting Device or TDD had been adding natural light to thousands of people’s homes in Australia since 1991.  With this product a brother and sister and husband trio, John Sagvold, Torre and Brad Dahl started spreading the word in early 1994 about Daylighting and its benefits.

Going to countless trade shows and putting on even more classes explaining to people that one way to lower their homes energy use and save money is natural lighting.  Architects and green designers began to see the light and understand the benefits of incorporating natural lighting into homes as a way of using less electrically powered light.  Solatubes were and are the low cost energy efficient alternative to traditional box skylights. Bringing in the same amount of light as skylights without the energy cost and leaking issues, all for about a quarter of the price of its leaky counterpart.

“It wasn’t always easy, convincing people that this little tube could provide enough light for an entire room and require absolutely no energy cost.” Torre Dahl NNL Co-founder.  “People kept asking how do we plug it in.”  John Sagvold NNL Co-founder.

After many years of explaining that they weren’t skylights but a new energy efficient way of lighting homes Solatubes began to take off. Now in 2010 after 16 years of operation NW Natural Lighting has installed, or sold, well over 25-thousand Solatubes in the western Washington area alone.  Working out of their Lynnwood showroom this family company has expanded from Solatubes to Solar Stars, a solar powered attic fan, Mirage retractable screen doors and aluminum railings.  Although their business and product list has expanded this family owned company still strives to bring natural light and lower energy bills into everyone’s home in the Northwest.
